Stars Aligned: Sapphire Glimmer's Fate

Born in a family of wealthy merchants and tradesmen that have gained much economic power in the Western region, Sapphire Glimmer certainly had everything at the tip of his fingers - luxury, riches, the best of everything possible. His father, and those descending in their noble bloodline had the spirit of traders running through their veins.

Except him.

It was not the fact that he had not a drop of his ancestors' economic-influential blood, but the fact that he disliked the path that seemed to have been thrust before him by his parents, who both expected him to follow in his father and elder siblings' footsteps and one day take the wheel in their enterprise. Thus, after weathering through clashes of ideals and wills with his parents and siblings, he fled home in search of a better destiny for himself - a brighter future.

His passions had always been turned towards education, and he spent more time learning about various lore and knowledge than the trading principles his tutors endlessly inculcated into him. He journeyed further West, using what trading skill he possessed and the resources his mother had almost grudgingly given him to make his way around. Eventually he found his place in a scholars' guild devoted to researching and studying various lore and magitech workings. He found himself fortunate, for the guild was part of a much larger organization - a collaboration of mortal minds working for the Celestial Exalts responsible for building a prosperous society for the West.

Fate seemed to smile at him and his decisions, for his excelling performance and devotion in his study of advanced magitech principles attracted the attention of the Celestial Exalt serving as their overseer, and offered him to dine with some of his colleagues. There Sapphire Glimmer presented his ideas and theories to the other Celestial Exalt scholars, all of whom becoming deeply interested in what he had in mind.

Days passed and he was eventually given permission to continue his studies in the Amethyst Arbor, the center of academic study in the Western region in terms of magitech and lore advancements. He was accompanied by his Celestial overseer, and together they entered the massive manse. As he stepped forward and had a clear view of the workings of the Arbor, his heart and mind flooded with emotions that made tears flow from his eyes. With such knowledge and marvels now at his fingertips, what more could he still ask for?

"Interesting thoughts, young man, but what if these marvels and knowledge had not been intended for you to receive?"

As a curious female voice whispered gently on his ears, Sapphire Glimmer felt the world around him move slower than usual. His surroundings eventually distorted and from a huge magitech artifact in front of him opened a rift into what seemed to be a starry night sky, and out came a woman of serene beauty and grace.

"Fate wishes you a pleasant day, Sapphire Glimmer." the woman said. "So, answer my question - what if this was not meant for you to have?"

"I... I do not know..." Sapphire Glimmer said, his welled-up emotions receding faster than the sea tide. "This... this is what I had dreamed of myself long ago, this is why I left home, I..."

"To achieve a brighter future for yourself, dear boy, I know. We have always known." the woman replied, like as if it was the most casual thing to do. "But your place lies at a different path than what you seem to see now. Let me show you..."

The surroundings around them completely became consumed into the starry night sky and he felt as if he was floating in mid-air. The woman waved her arms gracefully and a massive tapestry of sheer brilliance spread all around them, with fine threads and weaves running smoothly like floaty clouds. Here and there perched a spider-like automaton of sorts, running through the weaves and secreting the same elegant threads that make up the entire majestic loom.

"Welcome to the Loom of Fate, dear Sapphire." the woman said. "This is where we strive to maintain the balance and order throughout Creation, for without balance and order - or even, without serenity - " she held a hand against a certain part of the loom, and it seemed to ripple like the surface of water, resonating harmoniously and creating a delicate disturbance. " - There is bound to be chaos."

Sapphire admired the beautiful workings of the Loom. It was secondary to his interests to appreciate beauty and elegance in everything, and he also strives to inculcate such intricacies - trifles as it may seem to some - in his works.

But is his calling really not for building greater wonders of Creation?

"Would you not appreciate it instead if your knowledge were to be put instead in maintaining harmony and beauty in what you do?" the woman asked him gently, pacing around the delicate weaves and lightly stroking the spiders running through it.

It was then that he understood: there was still something much deeper than just gaining the knowledge - the happiness, the joy of actually creating something great or the contentment of seeing the great wonders as they are remain in its splendor are worth more than any tome's worth in Creation.

"If it would retain the glory of these wondrous workings and of Creation in its entirety, then by all means, I humbly accept such a responsibility." Sapphire Glimmer said, bowing before the woman.

"Excellent, Sapphire Glimmer." the Maiden of Serenity replied, approaching him, raising his face with her hands and kissing him gently on the forehead. "Stand proud, then, Chosen of Serenity, and bring joy and harmony to Creation with your knowledge and the continuing glory of these artifices!"

With that she slowly vanished, and Sapphire Glimmer's surroundings returned, only this time he realized he was glowing with a faint blue aura, the Mark of Serenity now glimmering on his forehead.

"Ah, so it has finished, then?"

It was his Celestial overseer, who apparently had kept his eyes on him the whole time. The Celestial Exalt laughed and made a move to remove something from his face. To Sapphire's surprise, the Exalt's face peeled off and vanished, revealing another face within it, this time with a mark that he now recognized as the Mark of Journeys - a fellow Chosen of Fate.

"My name is Tammizushun, Sapphire, and it is through Fate that our destinies are woven together into this day." he said, crossing his arms. "So... shall we begin your duties here in the Arbor?"

Sapphire glimmer laughed, put on his spectacles, then replied, "Let's do it. I'm ready."

The Accord of Ascending Conjunctions

Know all Beings Above, on and Beyond Creation
By the Authority of The Unconquered Sun, Lord of All Under Heaven
Under the Mandate granted by Him to the Exalted
The Deliberative of the Chosen of the Unconquered Sun
In the Year of Our Everlasting Glory 2277
Hereby Decrees the following as Law Upon Creation:

The Accord of Ascending Conjunctions

Recognizing that, the reincarnated souls of Our Exalted Comrades are born into new bodies that lack the proper pussiance to immediately resume their duties as Lawgivers, Stewards or Viziers.

Recognizing that it is crucial for the Exalted to know their place in the Divine Order, and have a deep appreciation of the strengths and weaknesses of the other Exalted

The Deliberative, by majority vote, approved by Her Exalted Highness R-Y- Mother of the Realm (May She Live Forever) and ratified by the Hierophant of the Unconquered Sun, (May His Wisdom Never Falter) hereby directs all bureaus, agencies and functionaries of the Realm to implement with reasonable haste this Most Perfected Accord:

All New Celestial Exalted born within 50 years from this Law coming into effect are to be placed in a special Society. This society shall henceforthwith be called "The Ascending Conjunction Society."
The Society shall be formally recognized with an Eclipse's binding oath, and the Spell known as the Sworn Brother's Oath.

All Perfected Circles, who have a member in the Ascending Conjunction Society must instruct the Society's Members for a Century, the schedule of which is to be determined when the Society is actually formed.

The Society will be a representative of the Realm for special functions to be dictated by the Ascending Conjunction Oversight Council. The current head of the Ascending Conjunction Oversight Council is the Deliberator Salina. The head of the Council shall change once every 500 years.

If other Exalts are reincarnated, they will be placed as members of the Society. The most number of members in an Ascending Conjunction Society is 10. In the event that more new Exalts are born while the others are in training and this brings the total to more then 10, a new Society will be formed.

Exalted are members of the Society for 500 years. Upon completion of the 500 years, the Exalt must leave the society. But the Exalt may join the Ascending Conjunction Oversight Council. Upon leaving the Society, all Oaths shall be terminated without prejudice from Heaven.

---
The Ascending Conjunction Society was in essence, a grand School for the young Celestial Exalted, with all Creation as their classroom, and 500 years to learn the intricacies of managing power and prestiege. It was a great, grand experiment, with noble causes.
Unfortunately, it would never reach it's full potential.

The Full Moon Rising - The Second Breath of Bellicose Omen Towards Stewardship

Omen was not in a good mood. Recent disappearances of key gang members and leaders have hurt the Western Prosperity Society* immensely.

He was no real leader. He understood the basics of war and survival but all that said - he was a warrior. He excelled in martial combat and often in bare hand fighting. He found himself in a leadership role because no one else would step up. Also, his lieutenant, Graceful Shadow Stalker went missing two days ago. Stalker was a much better leader than Omen as he did not always solve his problems with force.

Things were falling apart, again. Reclariant members had to be put down or shown their place. While almost all the gangs had losses, the WPS had the most significant losses currently and the other gangs were beginning to take advantage of that fact.

These and other dark thoughts disturbed Omen on his way home from his most recent meeting with the other heads within the Western Prosperity Society.

That’s why he was almost taken by surprise. He hid in the shadows to avoid being seen in the light of the full moon so if it wasn’t for a faint keening sound he would have been taken completely by surprise.

Not that it really mattered to his assailant. Narrowly missing a punch to his chin because he turned his head, a huge fist connected to Omen’s midsection sending him flying backwards. Omen managed to land on his feet but just barely. That blow hurt so much that he could not raise his hands to defend himself. He looked up slightly as the figure came into the moonlight.

It was shaped like a man, if vaguely, and that was the only thing human about it. Its face was that of a giant bat and it had claws and fangs and membrane-like wings spread under its arms.

Omen knew he was done for and his thoughts raced. He had the answer to the disappearances; this creature probably hunted them and brought them to feed its young. He then had another thought, the intelligence behind those bat-eyes said it was indeed more than meets the eye and was revising his theories when the bat creature struck.

Omen thought that the creature simply disappeared but then felt a huge claw grab his head from behind. His face was suddenly plummeting into the ground for some reason at a speed he scarcely thought possible. He tasted dirt and blood in his mouth but managed to remain conscious. He thought his head would split like a rotten melon in the next time it stuck the ground and given the speed the ground was moving would likely be in the next second if not sooner.

He scarcely felt the jarring impact, so deep into shock he was. He finally felt that his consciousness was mercifully fading but instead of the familiar blackness a suffusing silvery light blinded him in its radiance.

The single moment lasted less than a second yet felt like almost an hour. After the light faded enough that Omen could see, instead of seeing the ground or his assailant he saw a vision of the full moon and heard a strangely androgynous voice whisper to him: “You have been chosen by the Fickle Lady, the bloodied Huntress, and none may stand in your way. Will you let yourself be beaten without a fight? You have the power! Use it!”

A deafening roar from somewhere deep inside Omen’s soul rose up and formed itself into what appeared was a Lynx. Suddenly, his wounds did not hurt anymore and as far as he could tell he was not bleeding. He flexed his claws, and indeed he was surprised to have claws and held fast the arm holding the back of his head.

He then stood up easily and threw the weight from his back forwards and gazing deep into the eyes of his assailant, he let out a primal roar and bit it on the neck.

It shrieked. It let out a keening high pitched sound that hurt Omen’s suddenly very sensitive ears. The cat creature that was Omen let it go with a hiss and a snap that sounded like a curse. The bat creature let out another piercing shriek and attacked again.

Bellicose Omen Towards Stewardship no longer felt helpless, he lost himself in a rage and managed to dodge, strike, bite, and mangle his opponent. He did not do this without getting hurt as he was bitten, strangled, cut apart, and hurt.

Suddenly in the middle of the struggle, the bat creature broke away from Omen. It let out a keening laugh.

“I am Nightwarden, Chosen of Luna, as are you I see. I would like to congratulate you as no one has shed my blood in over a century.” the bat creature said in a high pitched but definitely male voice.

“Luna? The Fickle Lady? The Blood Spattered Huntress I saw in my vision? Thank you, I think.” Omen replied spitting out dirt, blood, and some bat fur.

“Yes, her! You have been Exalted and you will be educated somewhere away from here. You will find out on the morrow. I will show you.” Nightwarden laughs.

“Leave? My place is here. And what is this business of you attacking me in the first place?” asked Omen while picking off more dirt and fur from his teeth with his claws.

“The ambush? You are strong. This colony here in the Outback was made this way to determine who is strong. Those who prove themselves are taken from here to serve in the Wyld Formed lands. It is only through adversity that humanity can hone their strength.” explained Nightwarden.

“So, all those disappearances…?” asked Omen blurring into his human form.

“Yes, and since Luna chose you, you are definitely strong.” said Nightwarden simply beckoning Omen to go with him.

Bellicose Omen Towards Stewardship follows him into the night.

*Blade of the Seas heard the rather peculiar but amusingly appropriate name of a gang which was bent on survival in the Outback from some friends who were keeping him abreast of transfers into Mercy and possible candidates for mortal enlightenment to serve in Clepsys. In the Age of Sorrows, his next incarnation, named Knife of the Ocean suggested it to Naar Kalaman when they were thinking of a name for their emerging dominion bent on bringing “Peace and Justice to the West,” so to speak. It appealed to Naar as being appropriate and thoroughly amused Knife as being based on a gang of thugs from his dim memories of the First Age.
